Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is an international mutual aid fellowship focused on helping alcoholics achieve sobriety that was founded in 1935 by Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob Smith in Akron, Ohio. With the help of other early members, the founders developed AA's Twelve Step program and published Alcoholics Anonymous: The Story of How More Than One Hundred Men Have Recovered From Alcoholism, which is informally known as The Big Book.
